Root Canal

Have you been told by your dentist that you need a root canal? If so, you are not alone. Research has found that millions of teeth are treated and saved each year with root canal therapy. Our highly trained dentists continually take educational courses to provide our patients with the latest equipment and techniques.

What is a Root Canal?

Root canal is needed when there has been trauma or a large cavity damaging the tooth’s nerve causing an infection or inflammation. If the infection or inflammation is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess and even life threatening sepsis such as heart attack or stroke.

What Steps to Expect for a Root Canal?

The term root canal may sound terrifying but at Advanced DDS, we go above and beyond to ensure you the most comfortable, convenient and safe procedure process.

FIVE steps to expect when you’re being treated for a root canal at Advanced DDS:

Step 1: Digital x-rays are taken on the troubled area. Our dentist will evaluate for any infection to the bone and for the large cavity near the nerve.

Step 2: Anesthesia is administered with ease to make the procedure more comfortable for you

Step 3: The infected pulp is removed

Step 4: Filling is placed during the same visit or on your 2nd visit

Step 5: A crown is added to protect your tooth

3 Important Tips to Help Prevent a Root Canal:

Follow proper oral hygiene instructed by your Dental Hygienist

  1. Avoid foods with high sugar content or highly acidic since these foods feed the bacteria that eat away your tooth enamel causing infection and inflammation
  2. Do not wait until there’s a problem. Make sure you see your dentist and hygienist regularly since the majority of dental problems can be avoided
