The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that your child visits the dentist by their first birthday.
Our pediatric specialist, Dr. Cristina, will make their visit fun and informative. She will thoroughly and quickly examine your child for early detection and prevention of dental problems.
At Advanced DDS, in Garden City, NY, our team is trained to make your child’s visit positive, fun and educated. Dr. Cristina has had extensive pediatric training and incorporates a number of techniques to provide a calm, comfortable and fun experience for your child’s first visit.
Your child’s baby teeth are as important as their permanent teeth. Your child’s baby teeth will affect how healthy your child’s permanent teeth develop. A big concern is early childhood caries, also known as baby bottle tooth decay. If tooth decay (cavities) are present on your child’s baby teeth and not treated, it may lead to tooth decay on their permanent teeth.
Children with healthy teeth chew food easily and can smile with a pain-free mouth. It’s extremely important to start your child now on a lifetime of good dental habits, including visiting the dentist.
Dr. Cristina will advise as to any concerns and provide information on future preventive care. Typically, your child’s first dental visit is generally quite short as a typical pediatric check-up.
Your young child will need your help brushing their teeth.
Infant - clean your child’s gums with a soft infant toothbrush or cloth and water
Once teeth appear - start to incorporate a smear of fluoride toothpaste, brushing twice daily
Children 2-5 years old - dispense a pea-size amount of toothpaste and perform or assist your child’s tooth brushing
Dr. Cristina will review and teach you and your child on the proper techniques on cleaning your child’s teeth. Remember, proper dental care can help avoid a myriad of future dental issues.
