General Anesthesia for Dentistry

General Anesthesia and Conscious IV Sedation are available on-site at Advanced DDS. Our dentists are New York State licensed in conscious IV sedation. These unique services are used primarily on patients with dental phobia. However, there are a small percentage of people of whom sedation doesn’t work for, either because they have a very high tolerance to drugs used for IV sedation or they are uncooperative even when sedated. In these cases, general anesthesia is the best option for these patients.

Doctors who are certified and licensed to use general anesthesia must go through specific training and additional educational courses.  These doctors must complete an advanced educational program accredited by the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA) are deemed educationally qualified to use general anesthesia in practices.

There is some risk when undergoing general anesthesia, including sudden drop in blood pressure and irregular heartbeats. The patient will be closely monitored. Our on-site General Anesthesiologist is licensed, highly trained and skilled, with drugs and equipment to identify and manage any emergency, if needed.
